Tensions Soar as U.S. and Israel Launch Airstrikes on Iran—Trump Responds
In a dramatic escalation, Donald Trump ordered coordinated airstrikes with Israel against Iran over the weekend, targeting top Iranian leaders and key military installations. Sources say intelligence suggested U.S. and Israeli forces could strike multiple high-ranking figures simultaneously at a Tehran compound.
News quickly broke that Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, was killed in the operation, along with four family members. Trump addressed the strikes in a Truth Social video, stating: “It’s a very simple message. They will never have a nuclear weapon. We’re going to destroy their missiles and raze their missile industry to the ground. It will be totally obliterated.” He also issued a stark warning: “Lay down your arms or face certain death.”
The attacks followed weeks of stalled negotiations over Iran’s nuclear program. Tehran had refused to dismantle its nuclear capabilities, prompting the U.S. to increase its military presence across the Middle East. Israeli officials confirmed the strikes targeted both Khamenei and Iran’s President, Masoud Pezeshkian.
Iran responded rapidly, announcing a “first wave of extensive missile and drone attacks” across Israel. State media and officials indicated preparations for strikes on U.S. bases, describing the operation as “the most devastating offensive in the history of the Islamic Republic of Iran’s armed forces,” according to Fars News Agency.
Iran’s parliament speaker, Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf, warned the U.S. and Israel: “You have crossed our red line and must pay the price. We will deliver devastating blows that will make you beg.”
Trump responded firmly, again on Truth Social: “Iran just stated that they are going to hit very hard today, harder than they have ever hit before. THEY BETTER NOT DO THAT, HOWEVER, BECAUSE IF THEY DO, WE WILL HIT THEM WITH A FORCE THAT HAS NEVER BEEN SEEN BEFORE! Thank you for your attention to this matter! President DONALD J. TRUMP.”
U.S. and Israeli officials expect the military campaign inside Iran could last for weeks, while global observers watch closely as tensions continue to escalate. Both sides have signaled the conflict could intensify further, keeping the world on edge.
