Donald Trump has issued an update on the investigation into Charlie Kirk’s murder.

Kirk was assassinated on Wednesday (September 10) after being shot in the neck by what’s believed to have been a single gunman.

The suspect fled the scene afterwards and there’s been a huge manhunt for him ever since — but it’s thought that police have now have the suspect in custody.

Speaking on Fox News’ FOX and Friends, the president said when asked for an update on the case: “I think with a high degree of certainty we have [the suspect] in custody.”

According to Trump somebody close to the suspect turned him in, BBC News reports.

The POTUS was reportedly told the news just moments before he went on air with Fox News.

He proceeded to praise the local authorities who ‘did a great job’, adding that ‘everybody worked together’.

Trump’s claim comes after he previously spoke to reporters about how he would like the public to respond to the news of Kirk’s death, saying: “He was an advocate of non-violence that’s the way I’d like to see people respond.”

Trump also said he spoke to Kirk’s wife, Erika Lane Frantzve, following the shooting, and revealed she’s ‘devastated’.

He added: “She’s absolutely devastated as you can imagine.”
