Trump Names Jeanine Pirro As New Interim US Attorney For DC

President Donald Trump has made another appointment that has caused a stir among Democrats. On Thursday, he revealed that Judge Jeanine Pirro, co-host of the Fox News program ‘The Five,’ will serve as the interim U.S.

Attorney for Washington, D.C. ‘I am delighted to announce that Judge Jeanine Pirro will take on the role of interim United States Attorney for the District of Columbia,’ the president stated on Truth Social. ‘Jeanine is exceptionally qualified for this role and is regarded as one of the top district attorneys in New York’s history. She stands out in her field. Congratulations to Jeanine!’ Fox News promptly reacted to the announcement.

Jeanine Pirro has been an exceptional asset to The Five for the past three years and has long been a cherished host within FOX News Media, significantly contributing to our achievements during her 14-year career. We extend our best wishes to her in her new position in Washington,” stated a spokesperson for the news organization.

This statement followed Republican Senator Thom Tillis’s decision to block the confirmation of Ed Martin, the previous interim U.S. Attorney for Washington, D.C.

The senator mentioned that he had met with the nominee to address some concerns; however, those concerns remained unresolved as he spoke to CNN reporter Manu Raju on Tuesday.

The senator expressed that he has communicated to the White House his lack of support for the nomination. He stated, ‘Most of my concerns pertain to the events of January 6.

I believe that anyone who breached the perimeter should face imprisonment for a certain duration; whether that be 30 days or three years is open to discussion, but I have zero tolerance for those who entered the building on that day, which is likely where the majority of my objections lie.’

Furthermore, the senator noted that Martin felt some individuals prosecuted for offenses related to January 6, 2021, were subjected to excessive charges. ‘We must unequivocally acknowledge that the events of January 6 were wrong,’ the senator asserted.

‘These actions were not instigated or orchestrated by others to ensnare those individuals in legal trouble. They made a foolish choice and brought disgrace upon the United States by vandalizing the Capitol.’

Mr. Martin effectively articulated a point I believe to be valid: while some individuals may have faced excessive prosecution, there were approximately 200 to 300 cases that should not have received pardons. He continued, stating that if Mr. Martin were nominated as a U.S. attorney for any district other than the one where the events of January 6 occurred, he would likely endorse him; however, he cannot support him in this particular district.

Senator Durbin stated that a decision was reached last night to halt the progress of the background investigation.

He noted that, in strict legal terms, the individual remains the interim U.S. attorney until the end of May, specifically the 20th or 21st, at which point the district court judge has the discretion to appoint someone to fill the interim position once the current term concludes.

The senator remarked that the situation indicates internal issues within the organization. President Trump expressed on Truth Social that Martin’s confirmation is crucial.

He emphasized that, according to many, particularly Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., his approval is vital for the necessary actions to be taken to save lives and restore health to America.

The president highlighted Ed Martin’s deep commitment to this cause, stating that it surpasses that of many others he has encountered.

He concluded by asserting that they will swiftly reclaim the country, with Ed Martin playing a significant role in this endeavor, and he urged Republican Senators to commit to supporting his confirmation.
