She stabs her husband after discovering photos of “another woman”… and it was her when she was young
An unusual story that mixes jealousy, memory, and an ending that no one expected.
Mexico City — What seemed like a classic infidelity scandal turned into a surreal and tragic story. A woman was arrested Monday in the Mexican capital after stabbing her husband, convinced he had discovered compromising photos of her with “another woman.” The shocking twist: the photos were of herself… from her youth.
The incident occurred in the Iztacalco neighborhood when Leonor G., 55 , found an old box of photographs while cleaning out her home’s storage room. Inside, she found several pictures in which her husband, Jorge R., 60 , appeared affectionately embracing an unknown young woman—or at least that’s what she thought at the time.
According to the police report, Leonor flew into a rage upon seeing the images, believing her husband was keeping romantic mementos of a supposed mistress. Without saying a word, she waited for Jorge to return from work and, after a heated argument, attacked him with a kitchen knife , inflicting wounds to his arm and chest. Fortunately, the injuries were not life-threatening.
The Revelation
The screams alerted the neighbors, who called the police. When officers arrived, they found Jorge bleeding, while Leonor wept inconsolably, claiming that her husband “had cheated on her for years.” It wasn’t until the officers reviewed the photographs that they realized the unexpected turn of events
“It was her, clearly. Only much younger, with a different hairstyle, different makeup… but it was the same woman,” one of the officers stated in the report. When shown the photos, and after calming down, Leonor tearfully acknowledged that she was indeed the woman in the pictures , taken more than 30 years ago during her courtship with Jorge.
A case of fuzzy memory and jealousy
According to doctors, Leonor may be experiencing short- and long-term memory problems , possibly linked to undiagnosed neurodegenerative disorders. “There are signs of mild cognitive impairment, which could explain the confusion, although it doesn’t justify the violent reaction,” explained a specialist at the hospital where she was treated.
For his part, Jorge, still recovering physically, has decided not to press charges against his wife. “She wasn’t well, she didn’t know what she was doing. She’s the woman of my life, and those photos were from our first trip together, in Acapulco,” he told the press.
Reactions on social media
The story quickly went viral. On social media, thousands of users shared the news with comments ranging from disbelief to humor. “A story of jealousy and nostalgia, worthy of a movie,” one user wrote. Others, however, reflected on the importance of mental health in older adults and the impact of emotional misinformation.
What will happen now?
Leonor was taken for psychiatric evaluation and could be placed in treatment if a clinical condition is confirmed. Authorities decided not to pursue legal action, given that the affected party does not wish to continue with legal proceedings
Beyond the scandal, this unusual case offers a profound reflection on the power of memories, the passage of time, and the fragility of the human mind. And, of course, it reminds us that sometimes, the “other woman” in a photograph… can be yourself.
