A WORTHY OF RECOGNITION: Oaxacan Nurse Donates Her Organs and Saves Lives. In an act of generosity, Rosaura García Moreno, a 20-year-old from Tuxtepec, Oaxaca, became a hero by donating her organs after being diagnosed with brain death. After suffering a car accident that caused multiple fatal injuries, doctors notified her parents, who, in a gesture of solidarity, authorized the donation of her organs.
The High Specialty Medical Unit (UMAE) of the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) at Specialty Hospital No. 14 of the Adolfo Ruiz Cortines National Medical Center in Veracruz performed the surgical organ donation. Her liver was transferred to the UMAE “Siglo XXI” in Mexico City, while her kidneys and corneas benefited patients in Veracruz. Rosaura, a nursing student at the University of Papaloapan, Tuxtepec campus, will be remembered as a healthcare worker who, until her last moment, fulfilled her vocation of saving lives. A single donor can save up to eight lives and improve the quality of life for 50 more people. ![]()
