Al Roker, the longtime TODAY show weather anchor

Al Roker, the longtime TODAY show weather anchor, continues to prioritize his health at age 70. After years of fluctuating weight, he’s maintained a loss of over 100 pounds since undergoing gastric bypass surgery in 2002. His daily routine includes treadmill walking, light weight training, and hitting 10,000 steps—a habit he says helps him stay energized and mobile.

He’s candid about his journey, admitting there’s no quick fix for weight loss. While he still enjoys his favorite foods like steak and dessert, Roker embraces moderation. He encourages others to make sustainable changes, stressing that small, consistent efforts matter more than perfection.

Roker has faced serious medical challenges. In 2020, he was diagnosed with aggressive prostate cancer, which was caught early and successfully treated with surgery. He’s been cancer-free since, crediting routine screening for saving his life. His story has motivated many men to take prostate health seriously.

In 2022, he suffered a life-threatening medical scare involving blood clots in his legs and lungs. This led to significant internal bleeding, surgery to remove part of his colon and gallbladder, and a long hospital stay. Despite the severity, Roker’s physical fitness played a major role in his recovery.

He’s also undergone multiple orthopedic surgeries, including hip and knee replacements. These interventions helped him maintain an active lifestyle and remain mobile despite his health setbacks. Roker often shares updates to encourage transparency and motivate others facing similar challenges.

Motivated by his family—especially his new granddaughter, Sky—Roker focuses on long-term wellness. As Chief Motivation Officer for the Start TODAY app, he advocates regular checkups, movement, and realistic goals to help others build healthier lives.
