President Donald Trump expressed disappointment in Russia for launching missile strikes during ongoing peace talks between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Speaking to reporters, Trump highlighted his hope for a diplomatic resolution and criticized Russia’s actions during such a critical period.

He mentioned that the peace talks were initiated by Putin, possibly to avoid Western sanctions, and that Zelenskyy had agreed to meet in Istanbul, although it was unclear if Putin would attend.

The proposed ceasefire deal, reportedly discussed among U.S. officials, included recognizing Russia’s control over Crimea and freezing current battle lines. However, Zelenskyy strongly rejected this proposal, insisting that Crimea’s status is non-negotiable. He reiterated that the war began with Crimea’s annexation and should end with its liberation. Trump deflected blame for the Crimea situation onto former Presidents Obama and Biden, stating they allowed it to happen without resistance.

Trump urged Putin to cease military actions and finalize a peace agreement, claiming that a deal was within reach. He emphasized that under his leadership, the U.S. has regained global respect and suggested that his administration’s approach is more effective than that of his predecessors.

In a separate matter, Trump addressed recent anti-ICE protests in Los Angeles, where demonstrators clashed with police. He condemned protestors who spat on officers and announced consequences for such actions. His administration deployed 2,000 National Guard troops in response to the unrest. Additionally, Trump said he was considering invoking the Insurrection Act to address the chaos and confirmed Marines were on standby. More protests were anticipated.
