Cancer is a silent disease that often develops without showing any obvious signs, at least in its early stages. By the time symptoms finally appear, it has often already progressed. Therefore, it is crucial to be aware of certain subtle changes in our bodies that could be an early warning.

Below are 6 signs that could indicate cancer is growing in your body , and that you shouldn’t ignore.

1. Unexplained weight loss

Losing several pounds without changing your diet or activity level might seem like a positive sign, but it’s actually one of the most common indicators of various types of cancer. Cancer can disrupt metabolism, and in some cases, the body begins to use energy from muscle and fat reserves to try to fight malignant cells.

2. Persistent fatigue

Extreme fatigue that doesn’t improve with rest could indicate a serious problem. This fatigue, unlike everyday exhaustion, can be caused by the growth of tumors affecting vital organs or by anemia induced by certain types of cancer, such as colon cancer or leukemia.

3. Skin changes

The skin can reflect what’s happening inside the body. The appearance of dark spots, changes in moles, yellowing (jaundice), redness without an apparent cause, or constant itching are signs that deserve attention. Melanoma and other types of skin cancer can manifest in this way in their early stages.

4. Persistent or localized pain

Pain that doesn’t go away and isn’t related to a previous injury can be a warning sign. Bone, pancreatic, ovarian, or even brain cancer can begin with pains that seem common but become chronic and specific. If pain persists for weeks or worsens, don’t underestimate it.

5. Unusual bleeding

Bleeding outside of your menstrual cycle, blood in your stool, urine, or when coughing are warning signs. Colon, bladder, lung, uterine, or throat cancer, among others, can cause these types of symptoms. Whenever you experience unusual bleeding, see a doctor immediately.

6. Unusual lumps or swellings

Detecting a lump under the skin, especially in areas like the neck, armpits, breasts, or groin, can be an early sign of cancer. While not all lumps are malignant, any persistent swelling should be evaluated. Breast cancer, lymphoma, and other types of cancer can present this way.
